Jazzlyn Nathan entered 6th grade at J.E.B. Stuart Middle School with low grades and test scores. Administrators recognized Jazzlyn as a student who may fall off track to graduation and referred her to Achievers For Life.
Just as she began to receive AFL support, her family experienced a fire that destroyed their home. An AFL family advocate connected them to critical resources and made sure Jazzlyn also received additional academic support. With this support system, even through her most difficult time, Jazzlyn brought her grades up to As and Bs.
Now ready to start her freshman year at Frank Peterson Academy, Jazzlyn is honored to be one of the few 9th graders allowed to participate in the in the culinary institute. “I love to cook,” said Jazzlyn. “But, my true love is soccer. I hope to play for the women’s Barcelona team someday.” Regardless of the path she chooses, Jazzlyn is pursuing her dreams.
