How You Can Help: Families Facing Food Insecurity

November 5, 2025

food insecurity

Across the country, families are facing uncertainty around Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits — and Northeast Florida is no exception.

According to the latest ALICE report, nearly 40% of local households already struggle to make ends meet, and in Duval County alone, 12.7% experience food insecurity every day. As critical food assistance remains unsettled, even more families could struggle to feed themselves and their families in the weeks ahead.

Every day, and especially in times of crisis, United Way of Northeast Florida is committed to ensuring families have what they need to thrive. Here’s how you can help during this critical time:

  • Give: Make a gift to United Way and check “food insecurity support” to direct your donation to this critical need.
  • Donate food: Bring items to one of six participating Full Service Schools sites to help stock their pantries and nearby food banks.
  • Volunteer: Sign up to help local organizations respond to the rising need for food assistance.
  • Spread the word: Share United Way 211 (just dial 2-1-1) with anyone who may need food or basic needs assistance.

Thank you for your support and for standing with our community in these uncertain times. For questions, please contact James Ellout, our vice president of community impact.
