United Way announces inaugural Champions of Change award winners
The awards honor individuals and corporations for championing community impact

 
Jacksonville, Fla. (April 25, 2025) – United Way of Northeast Florida rolled out the red carpet last night to announce the winners of its inaugural Champions of Change Awards. More than 125 people attended the ceremony and celebration, which took place at Emerald Station, part of the Phoenix Arts & Innovation District. Award categories celebrated philanthropic and volunteer service, recognizing both individuals and companies for their dedication to creating positive change in Northeast Florida.

“United Way believes in a community of opportunity where everyone has hope and can reach their full potential, and these award winners play a critical part in helping us achieve that vision for Northeast Florida,” said Melanie Patz, president and CEO of United Way of Northeast Florida. “We are so grateful not only for their tremendous support but also for their passion for giving back and making the greater Jacksonville community a better place for everyone.”

The following corporations, listed alphabetically, were recognized with a Heart of Giving Award based on company size and total dollars raised for United Way last year:
• CSX
• GuideWell/Florida Blue
• Miller Electric Company
• Nimnicht Family of Dealerships

The following companies, listed alphabetically, were awarded a Heart of Service Award based on number of volunteer hours and number of employees:
• Baptist Health
• Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta (Jacksonville Branch)
• Haskell
• Regency Centers

Melanie Patz, president and CEO of United Way of Northeast Florida, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the partners, staff and supporters who are building lasting change across our community.

Two Wealth of Impact Awards were presented to Wells Fargo and volunteer Bettye Scott for their outstanding dedication to and support of RealSense, United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which helps more than 9,000 families annually file their taxes for free.

The evening concluded with the final awards given to the following:
• Dominique Moore (Rising Philanthropist Award)
• Fidelity Investments (Power of Partnership Award)
• Publix Super Markets (Test of Time Award)

“The impact these individuals and companies have made on our community is humbling and profound,” said Coretta Hill, chief operating officer for United Way. “Their generosity is measured in countless lives changed and a community much stronger than before.”

The evening of celebration was emceed by Vic Micolucci and also featured live painting by local artists Myah Freeman and Michael McIntire. The drumline of nearby Andrew Jackson High School also made a special appearance at the conclusion of the ceremony to kick off the after party of music and dancing.

The selection for Champions of Change Awards winners in this inaugural year was made by United Way staff based on dollars raised and volunteer hours served. Next year, United Way anticipates opening several awards categories for public nomination.
