The Achievers For Life (AFL) program is dedicated to providing the support needed to overcome barriers to success in and out of the classroom, so that students graduate on time and stay on track to being financially stable. United Way and key impact partners have helped implement AFL at 10 middle schools throughout Duval County, and have impacted the lives of thousands of students and their families.
It warmed our hearts to hear from Achievement Advocate Yolanda Blackshear about how AFL students from Jefferson Davis Middle are giving back:
I wanted to forward some pictures of our AFL Students working hard to put a smile on those that may be struggling during this Thanksgiving holiday. Fifty-two students were selected to attend the Jaguar Honor Rows game on December 7, 2014.
These students participated in assembling “I Care” Kits that included personalized cards, toothpaste, toothbrush, a bar of soap, chapstick, a hair comb, Kleenex tissues, wet wipes, wash cloths, bandages, oatmeal cream pies, and Slim Jims.
We were very proud of the work our students put in to this community service project and wanted to share it with you all. We will be delivering these kits to the Clara White mission this afternoon.”
