A year in review: Moments in 2016

We can say with confidence 2016 was truly one for the books at United Way of Northeast Florida. Thanks to the contributions of Northeast Florida citizens, we were able to orchestrate several successful programs and events and change the lives of thousands of people in our community for the better. Check out some of the highlights from this past year.

Alongside several nonprofit partners, we significantly reduced our costs, implemented environmentally-friendly practices, and earned the coveted four-leaf designation from Green Team Project. The event featured family fun, guest speakers, giveaways, and of course, free tax preparation services. Thanks to dedicated RealSense volunteers, nearly 21,000 free tax returns were filed, saving clients close to $5.3 million in tax-preparation fees with refunds totaling more than $27.2 million. Read more >>>

 

 

 


IMG_3927We had a blast at “United We Rock! @ Downtown Art Walk,” a unique opportunity for United Way to recognize the impact of its supporters and also engage with new audiences and the community overall. The event started with an open house and reception at the duPont Cent and culminated with a concert in Hemming Park.  Read more >>>

 

 

 


DSC04501More than 900 students and their families enjoyed carnival fun and a barbecue dinner at our Achievers For Life Celebration May 19. Students were recognized for A and A-B Honor Roll achievements and participated in various activities including a bounce house, tug of war, sack races, face painting, and more. Read more >>>

In September, we joined JAXUSA Partnership, a division of the JAX Chamber, at the 3rd Quarter JAXUSA Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront to launch our Make Your Moment campaign. Read more >>>

 

 

 

 


IMG_2864-1024x681When Northeast Florida was hit by Hurricane Matthew in October, United Way and partners were there to help bring relief to those affected by collaborating to establish Florida’s First Coast Relief Fund. Read more >>>

 

 

 

 


UW_HH_2016_0080Hometown Huddle was one of the highlights in October. Here, youths had the opportunity to interact with players from the Jacksonville Jaguars and play field games. Guests also collected food donations to give to community members in need, helped plant new landscaping, and paint benches for the school that it was held at.
