Florida Blue and United Way of Northeast Florida partnered last month for “Take Action Day” on March 28. This special service day for Florida Blue employees helped tackle student barriers to success and more. The volunteer event was held in conjunction with Florida Blue’s annual multi-million-dollar United Way employee giving campaign, which concluded March 31.

Take Action Day featured several activities, including making hundreds of confidence kits (female hygiene), snack packs and mindfulness kits for students at United Way’s Full Service Schools. Volunteers also created dozens of kindness cards for seniors, teachers, nurses and Veterans as well as had the opportunity to donate blood at the OneBlood bloodmobile on site. More than 100 Florida Blue employees participated in the four-hour drop-in event, which took place on the Florida Blue campus on Jacksonville’s Southside.

Through volunteerism, United Way provides services and builds critical capacity for initiatives and organizations throughout our region. Confidence kits ensure female students do not face “period poverty,” which can affect school attendance and mental and physical well-being. Snack packs provide assistance for students experiencing food insecurity, and mindfulness kits promote stress relief and focus for local children. Paired with other volunteer activities happening on Take Action Day, these activities not only help alleviate barriers to success in school but also raise awareness of these important challenges facing too many local students every day.
