988 is the easy-to-remember number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This free and confidential service is available 24/7 for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis, including thoughts of suicide or emotional distress. You can also call 988 if you're worried about a friend or family member.
In 2022, United Way of Northeast Florida became a key partner in expanding this vital service. Our team works to ensure everyone has access to the support they need during a crisis.

Step 1: A warm welcome
When you call, you’ll hear a brief message with options, including Veteran or LGBTQ+ services, to receive help from a 988 specialist.
Step 2: Connection to resources
After a brief wait with calming music, you'll connect with a caring counselor who'll assess your needs and link you to local mental health care.
Step 3: Compassionate care and support
Our first priority is your safety and well-being. We actively listen to your story and provide support. Together, we'll take the next steps.
